The committee considered a newly drafted policy on the use and reproduction of copyrighted materials (to be numbered Policy 625) and agreed to table it until the committee’s October 7 meeting so district attorneys can review the language. Mike Burding, a district staff member who drafted the revision, said the update expands on the fair-use language in the existing policy and adds guidance about showing films in classrooms and fair‑use considerations for educational purposes. Burding told the committee he moved the policy from the 800 series (facilities/buildings numbering) to the 600 series (instruction/education) because the policy pertains to educational programs. Committee members thanked Burding for the work and a motion to table the policy until Oct. 7 passed; the stated reason was to have attorneys review the draft to avoid legal uncertainty before it proceeds to the full school board.
