The Laramie City Council on Sept. 2 voted to repeal Laramie Municipal Code chapter 2.2 and eliminate the Board of Health as a city board (ordinance No. 2108). The motion passed 7-0 with two councilors absent.
Staff told council the Board of Health—s responsibilities are narrowly defined by state statute and primarily involve oversight of inspections for restaurants, tattoo parlors and spas. Director Derek Teany said the board—s duties had become largely administrative and that the board itself supported the proposal to disband. Councilor Joe Vigil thanked board members for their service and said the move recognized the completion of the board—s primary tasks.
Director Teany and Councilor Matt O'Doherty emphasized that routine health inspections and enforcement will continue under city staff; the ordinance removes the separate board but does not alter regulatory inspections or public reporting. Staff encouraged former board members to consider service on other commissions where their expertise can be applied. The repeal does not change inspection schedules or statutory responsibilities for food- and consumer-safety programs.
