The Laramie City Council on Sept. 2 approved a service agreement with Crescendo to replace the city—s aging phone system. Councilor Bowling moved to approve the contract, which covers professional and advanced user licenses at $9.45 and $15.85 per user per month respectively for a 60-month term; staff said the total contract amount is about $208,000 and the annual cost is roughly $41,000. The measure passed 7-0 with two members absent.
City staff reported the existing phone system is more than 15 years old and the vendor has announced it will stop providing patches and support. Director Roy Rhodes said the city compared multiple vendors, completed demonstrations and pricing, and selected Crescendo as the best fit. Rhodes told council that signing a 60-month hosted contract lowers costs compared with a shorter term and allows the city to stay up to date through the hosted platform.
Rhodes also noted that the fiscal year 2026 budget previously included $70,000 toward the phone system; staff said the Crescendo contract will come in under earlier budget estimates. Councilors asked about vendor longevity and software updates; Rhodes replied the vendor's platform is widely resold and that hosted systems generally receive ongoing updates. No public comment was offered on the item.
