Sheriff: County will ratify $4,500 Justice Assistance Grant for training equipment

The Carbon County Commission ratified a Justice Assistance Grant application for $4,500 on Sept. 5 to purchase training equipment for law-enforcement annual training, Sheriff Wood said.
Wood told the commission the grant is a repeat award to the county and requires no local match. ‘‘It's for necessary training equipment… helmets with face protection. They're about $375 a piece. We need 9 of them,’’ the sheriff said. He also described purchases that would include throat and torso protectors and training devices commonly known as simunitions.
Commissioners had no questions; the commission ratified the grant application by voice vote. The sheriff noted the funding supports de-escalation and force-on-force training and that the equipment mitigates risk during realistic training scenarios.
No further conditions or budgetary offsets were discussed during the meeting.
