Commission approves emergency-management interlocal agreement with neighboring counties

The Carbon County Commission voted Sept. 5 to approve an emergency-management interlocal agreement among Carbon, Emery, Grand and San Juan counties that formalizes mutual assistance on communications and other emergency needs.
Justin (first name only in transcript), who presented the item and described recent mutual aid during a fire in San Juan County, said the agreement simply formalizes longstanding ad hoc assistance among the counties. ‘‘San Juan County recently had a fire… I was able to take and help them with our Starlink to make sure that things help down there,’’ Justin said.
Commissioners asked about logistics for collecting signatures from participating entities; Justin said emergency managers and county commissions were already placing the item on their agendas and that San Juan County’s emergency manager, Tammy Gallegos, was coordinating signatures. The commission approved the agreement by voice vote.
The agreement is intended to make resource sharing and mutual aid more routine and to clarify roles during cross-county emergencies.
