Council accepts $95,765 Department of Ecology solid waste grant for recycling, outreach and encampment cleanup

The Auburn City Council on Sept. 2 authorized the mayor to execute an agreement with the Washington State Department of Ecology and accept a $95,765 grant for the 2025–2027 Local Solid Waste Financial Assistance (LSWFA) program.
Council member Kate Baldwin moved to adopt Resolution 58-57 and Council member Hanan Amer seconded. Baldwin said the funding will support contamination reduction in recycling at multifamily properties, community yard sales, classroom presentations in the Auburn School District, outreach at city-sponsored events, business education on organics management law requirements, and homeless encampment cleanup activities.
The resolution passed by voice vote; council did not add conditions or direct staff to change the proposed scope of work during the meeting.
