The Page County School Board approved several administrative items, including policy updates from the Virginia School Boards Association (VSBA) that clarify heat‑safety practices for athletics, authorized an auction of surplus vehicles on GovDeals, and approved claims for payment totaling $330,652.57.
The actions affect student‑athlete safety, district asset disposal and routine fiscal operations and were approved during the meeting's business session.
Miss Miller presented the monthly claims and the claim certification and said the operating fund (Fund 1) claims were $281,165.33 and food service (Fund 5) claims were $49,487.24, for a total of $330,652.57. A motion to approve the claims was made by a board member and approved by the board.
Board members also approved VSBA policy updates. The packet and update included a revised heat‑safety policy that uses the wet‑bulb globe index (which accounts for temperature, humidity, wind, sun and cloud cover) to guide when outdoor athletic activities should be restricted or moved indoors. An athletic staff presenter said some teams had already adjusted practices and moved activities indoors when the index threshold was met.
Another informational item, presented by Paul Bell, requested authorization to auction surplus vehicles and equipment. Bell told the board the items slated for disposal include a zero‑turn mower, a Ford Explorer, a dump truck and four buses more than 30 years old that are not in active service. He said the district’s plan is to list these items on GovDeals, an online portal used by governments to sell surplus property. The board voted to authorize the auction.
All motions related to the claims, the VSBA policy updates and the vehicle auction were approved during the meeting; each item was presented as an informational or consent/action item and carried following motions and seconding comments from board members.
— Ending: The policy changes will be implemented with athletic staff training; surplus vehicles will be listed on GovDeals and sold according to district policy; claims payments were approved and will be processed by district finance.
