Saint Louis — The Real Estate Committee heard Aug. 18 that crews completed exterior cleanups at Walnut Park and Northwest High School sites at an approximate combined cost of $2,000 to remove tires, mattresses and debris. Staff said closed properties impose recurring unplanned expenses. A staff member said some closed sites have fencing but that fences do not always deter trespassers and that the district spends roughly $100,000 annually on upkeep for closed facilities, including cleanups and lawn maintenance. The committee noted these are unplanned costs that reduce funds available for instructional priorities. No committee vote was taken; the item was provided for information.
