City of Yukon development services reports staffing changes, new predevelopment meetings

Danielle O'Neil, representing the City of Yukon Development Services department, told the board the city processed 10 new or renewed business licenses in July and that four staff retirements in the department have prompted reorganization and use of external firms for inspections.
“We have had 4 retirements within our department. So, we are working with a couple different firms, externally to, help with inspections and and things along those lines,” O'Neil said. She added the city will backfill positions and is reviewing permitting and licensing procedures to make them smoother.
O'Neil said Development Services will begin offering predevelopment meetings so that project teams can meet city staff and learn requirements before filing building permits or planning applications. She reported the department handled seven planning commission items and eight city council items in August and had two items scheduled so far for September.
O'Neil noted that some positions are required by state statute; the board was told the department is evaluating its structure while complying with statutory staffing requirements.
