Council directs city manager to explore potential property purchase after executive session

After meeting in executive session to discuss the purchase or appraisal of real property, the Yukon City Council on Sept. 9 directed the city manager to explore a potential property purchase, develop renovation budgets and report back to the council at a future meeting. The motion directing the city manager to investigate the property and potential renovation costs passed unanimously. During public comments before the motion, one speaker invited the council to a nonprofit food pantry event and the council returned to open session without disclosing details of the executive session beyond the statutorily permitted summary that “only the items in the agenda were discussed. No action was taken. No votes were cast.” In open session the council then voted to assign the city manager to pursue a property appraisal, draft renovation cost estimates and return with recommended next steps; no purchase was authorized at the Sept. 9 meeting. The council’s action was a direction to staff; any future purchase would require separate council approval and public disclosure as required by state law and city procedures.
