OKCPS plans 5-year monitoring calendar and governance trainings to focus board on student outcomes

OKCPS staff told the board Aug. 25 the district will present a proposal next month for a five-year monitoring calendar designed to align board monitoring to district goals and ensure consistent monthly reports.
Jason Galloway, chief of staff, said the proposal would include a monitoring template and that, if approved, the first monitoring item under the plan would be October’s review of fourth-grade OSTP literacy (goal 1) and third-grade NWEA achievement (interim goal 1c). “We will be bringing to the board a proposal for a 5 year monitoring calendar,” Galloway said.
Board members discussed related training and calendar items intended to support an outcomes-focused governance model. The board was told the first training date, Oct. 20, will cover a board self-evaluation; Nov. 3 will cover policy and committee “diet” (purpose and limits of committees); and a Sept. 29 placeholder exists for a discussion on two-way board–superintendent communication best practices.
Board members said pre-reading for the trainings has been minimal historically, and staff agreed to circulate any substantial materials in advance. No formal board action was recorded; Galloway and board leadership described the next steps as preparing the calendar and the monitoring template for a future business meeting vote.
