Yukon Main Street plans Yukon Salutes banners and fall butterfly plantings after Keep Oklahoma Beautiful grant

Vicki Davis, director of Yukon Route 66 Main Street, told the board the design committee is working on Yukon Salutes banners and that she will order banners by the end of the month. She also said the program received a Keep Oklahoma Beautiful grant to install butterfly gardens in downtown planters.
“We received, Keep Oklahoma Beautiful grant, for Route 66 businesses ... it’s what they call Project in a Box. And so for this one, it's planting, butterfly gardens,” Davis said, adding the group was one of the first communities to receive the grant.
Davis said Stephanie Hale is leading the planting project and is working with a local nursery to select the plants; Davis noted appropriate planting time would likely be mid‑September when temperatures cool. The board has experienced leadership turnover in the design point and currently lacks a permanent chair, Davis said, but that several volunteers remain engaged.
No formal board vote was taken; Davis described ongoing planning and expected timelines. Board members discussed elevating an October Yukon Salutes ceremony that organizers hope will be held on the second Saturday in October.
The design updates were informational items presented to the Main Street board during the report of design point activities.
