Council grants 45-day extension for restaurant fee waiver; sets new deadline Oct. 15

The Yukon City Council approved a 45-day extension on Sept. 9 to the deadline for a fee waiver previously granted to the owner of a proposed restaurant at 1651 Shidek Circle, setting the new deadline to Oct. 15. The extension responded to a request from owner Joey Morris, who told city staff he had subcontractor and builder problems and had to change developers before vertical construction could begin. City staff told the council the total waived fees amount previously approved was about $11,000, of which permit fees were about $1,800. Council member Rodney Zimmerman moved to set the new break-ground deadline to Oct. 15; the motion was seconded and carried. The clerk recorded final votes as Selby: yes; Shriver: no; Zimmerman: yes; Hillmore: yes. Council members said they supported the extension but also favored time-limiting it to encourage progress. City staff reported they had worked with the applicants and that the owner hoped to have construction quotes returned within the week. The extension applies only to the council’s prior action waiving permit and certain development fees conditioned on breaking ground by the earlier deadline; the council did not change which fees were waived. The council did not authorize any additional fee waivers or funding at the Sept. 9 meeting.
