OKCPS board approves tentative labor agreements and step increases for staff

The Oklahoma City Public Schools Board of Education approved a series of tentative labor agreements and related step increases during its Aug. 25 meeting.
Board member Juan Lacona moved to approve a tentative agreement with the Oklahoma City Federation of Classified Employees that provides a $0.25 per hour increase for most eligible support employees and targeted increases for bus drivers, bus assistants, school nutrition staff and skilled laborers. The motion passed by voice vote.
The board also approved a tentative agreement with the Oklahoma City AFT local 2309 (American Federation of Teachers). Board member Dana Meister moved to approve a one-step advancement on applicable teacher salary schedules along with additional enrichments for targeted steps; the motion passed by voice vote.
Members approved a separate agreement with the American Federation of School Administrators, Local 79, that included a step increase for eligible administrators, a $400 base-salary enrichment for elementary principals, and higher totals for high-school principals (listed by the superintendent as $3,000), plus one-time stipends for off-step administrators.
A motion to approve step increases for eligible professional technical staff (employees hired by Jan. 1, 2025 and employed on Aug. 25, 2025) also carried.
Votes were recorded by voice; each of the motions in the record carried with unanimous board approval reported in the transcript. The agreements were described as having been previously approved by union membership where applicable.
