The Weber School District board on Tuesday approved negotiated updates for administrators and education support professionals that include several contract clarifications and benefit changes. What the agreements change: District staff said administrator interns’ provisional status may be extended up to five years, aligning administrators with educator practices. The agreements remove detailed FMLA language and instead reference the district’s medical leave policy (Policy 7700), which incorporates FMLA, paid paternity and postpartum leave, ADA and short‑ and long‑term disability benefits. District negotiators said they would revise administrator professional growth fund language to clearly define allowable uses (technology, professional dues and continuing education). For retired administrators who transition to Medicare at age 65, the monthly supplemental contribution was proposed to increase from $100 to $200 per month, and retiree benefits will be reviewed annually with a two‑year notice required should benefits be terminated. Education support professionals: The agreement updates the terminology from “classified” to “education support professionals” to reflect recent state legislative language. For transportation staff, the contract now clarifies that most contracted bus drivers have a 5.75‑hour contract but receive a minimum of 2.5 hours pay for field trips or extracurricular runs; that pay is at a different rate than their contracted hourly rate. The agreements also clarify jury duty documentation procedures. Board action: The district asked for board approval and the motions to adopt the negotiated agreements passed on voice votes. Why it matters: The agreements formalize administrative practices (intern status and professional development), change retiree supplemental benefits, and explicitly define transportation pay mechanics that affect employees and operating costs. Ending: District officials said the updates align agreements with district policy and recent law changes and allow administrators and support staff clearer guidance on benefits and pay rules.
