David Prince, owner of Veil Gun Range at 14400 Newvoy Road, told the City Council at the Aug. 19 study session that he supports public-safety spending and asked the council to consider diverting park-improvement funds to fire and safety needs. Prince said he reviewed the proposed city budget and was concerned about cuts to public safety and road maintenance.
“We need to make sure that they have all the equipment, all the personnel, all the things they need,” Prince said, praising the fire department’s response times during several false alarm incidents at his range. He urged redirecting what he characterized as a $2,000,000 park improvement allocation to public safety instead: “So, when you're talking about investing $2,000,000 in a park improvement, I'd just simply put that money toward fire and public safety.”
The comment was received during the public-comment portion of the study session; no formal council action was taken in response during the meeting.
