The Tonganoxie City Council approved a project to inspect and clean segments of the city’s sanitary sewer mains, awarding the work to Ace Pipe Cleaning and authorizing expenditures not to exceed $25,000 for 2025.
City staff described the work as a targeted inspection and cleaning effort drawn from the 2025 adopted budget. Staff said the city has more than 28 miles of mains and the current scope was expected to require about 20 hours of work. Two bids were received: Ace Pipe Cleaning at just under $700 per hour and a second bidder at about $900 per hour. Staff recommended Ace Pipe Cleaning as the lowest-cost bidder.
Because inspections sometimes reveal additional areas in need of immediate attention, staff asked the council to authorize up to $25,000 to allow contractors to extend hours without returning to council for authorization. Public Works Director Kent Heskett will coordinate the work and the project is part of a broader asset-management effort to map, prioritize and perform preventative maintenance on water and sanitary assets.
A council motion to approve the project and authorize expenditures up to $25,000 passed unanimously. Staff said work would begin as soon as scheduling is completed.
