City staff said the funds will be used for event infrastructure, including portable restrooms, stage rental, and live music contracts. Joanna Ives, identified in the meeting as the elected president of the Tonganoxie Business Association and lead organizer for Tongie Days 2025, was present and staff said vendor sign-ups had just opened.
Staff noted the cost of putting on the festival has increased over recent years; organizers indicated they would try to offset increases with savings from previous years. The council moved and seconded a motion to approve the $7,500 commitment, which passed unanimously.
Staff said the funding is available in the general fund and that staff will expedite the payment so vendors and contracts can be finalized.
