The Tonganoxie City Council on May 5 approved Ordinance No. 15-30 to permit the sale and consumption of alcohol on specified public property during the Tongi Days 2025 special event.
City staff described the event perimeter: Fourth Street from Burry to Maine; Maine from Fourth to Third; Delaware from Fourth to Third; Third from Delaware to Maine; Gallagher Park; and parking adjacent to the waterpark. Staff identified two vendors in the packet: "Alberto Yallock with 1866" and "Z and M Twisted Vines," the latter listed as a winery that would sell unopened bottles for consumption within the event perimeter. Porter told the council staff reviewed the application with the police department, fire department and public works and had "no comments at this time." Staff added they would advise planners of any necessary adjustments before the June 14 event.
Councilmember Dale moved to approve Ordinance No. 15-30, "allowing the consumption of alcohol on certain public property for limited time and purpose pursuant to KSA 41 dash 7 1 9 a 3 d 11 and e for the Tongi Days 2025 public event." Councilmember McCutcheon seconded; the motion carried. The council did not record a roll-call tally during the discussion in the public transcript.
The ordinance completes municipal permitting steps described by staff and, according to staff, enables temporary permits for the listed vendors to be filed with the state. No police, fire or public works objections were raised during the meeting.
