City staff introduced the application and said the event, organized by local school superintendent Lauren Feldkamp and volunteer Andy Burke, ran smoothly in its inaugural year and drew a “couple hundred” attendees. Staff noted the council requested that nearby residential property owners be notified in advance so residents and pet owners would not be surprised by crowds or noise.
Organizers described the event as an educational commemoration of D-Day with period-correct uniforms and equipment that spur historical conversations with younger attendees. “It was really cool last year…it brought people into town,” one council member said during discussion. Event organizers said reenactors complimented the hospitality and expect another strong turnout this year.
Council members moved and seconded a motion to approve the special event permit and fireworks display as requested. The motion passed unanimously.
The council and staff said they will expedite distribution of any required permits and confirmations to organizers and will ensure notified neighbors are aware of the dates and expected activity.
