The South Orangetown Central School District Board of Education voted to keep Stephen Finn as board president and to elect Diana Corbell as vice president during its reorganization meeting.
Board member Jay nominated Finn for another term as president; Rob Collins seconded the nomination and the board approved the motion by voice vote. The board then nominated Diana Corbell for vice president, the nomination was seconded and approved by voice vote.
The board administered the oath of office after the votes. Stephen Finn recited the oath pledging to “support the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of New York, and that I will faithfully discharge the duties of board president to the best of my ability.” Diana Corbell subsequently recited the vice president’s oath.
Board members discussed continuity and collaboration as reasons for supporting the reappointments. One member said the board is “trying to be as collaborative as possible” and emphasized continuity during a “crucial time.” Other members said they wanted to give multiple people a chance to serve and that they appreciated the board’s cooperative approach.
