Parents ask why some elementary schools still list copy paper on supply lists; district says budget includes paper

Several parents and trustees raised concerns that some elementary school supply lists continue to ask families to provide multipurpose/copy paper and other consumables despite a district budget that included those items.
A trustee read examples from individual elementary school lists that requested a ream of printer/copy paper and multiple packs of pencils or tissues. Superintendent Velusco and other staff said principals prepare the lists with teacher input; Velusco said the district’s approved budget does include an allocation for copy paper in each school’s supply lines and that the district would investigate why several school websites or specific school communications still listed copy paper as required for families.
Trustees and staff agreed to review the lists and correct any school-specific postings that do not reflect district-provided supplies. The district also pointed parents to QR codes and the district website for school-specific supply guidance and said it would examine presenting optional vs. required items more clearly so families are not asked to purchase large quantities of consumables.
District staff also highlighted district-run events and programs this week: a back-to-school fair Sept. 3 offering 2,000 backpacks (split between K–6 and grades 7–12 with school-supplies contents) and Family University sessions beginning Aug. 27 to explain the parent portal and supplies lists.
Less critical details: the district indicated it will look into whether some school webpages need correction and that principals are responsible for compiling lists with teacher input.
