Board revisits Vo-Tech enrollment and approves consent items; 10th graders added for algebra credit

During the Aug. 11 consent agenda, the board approved routine items and revisited a Vo-Tech (tech center) enrollment question so the district could include 10th-grade students for pre-engineering algebra credit. Rochelle and other staff explained the Vo-Tech item had been discussed previously and that last month it had not included 10th grade. "It was, but it didn't include remember what you'd, found, like, you had us look into the previous year ... This year's also didn't include that. So this is we're revoting on it again because it was just for eleventh and twelfth, and we didn't wanna miss the tenth grade students in pre engineering for that algebra credit," a board member said. Staff confirmed the update includes tenth-grade access for the course and that the revision is an update from the prior month's item. The consent agenda also included contracts, child nutrition, software purchases and program renewals. Staff said they will track usage of instructional software (for example, Alpha Plus and Lexia) and report on usage when contracts return to the board next year. Board members flagged an item on contract extensions to be voted on separately after discussion in executive session. The consent items were moved and will be approved by separate votes where requested; the Vo-Tech update was included as an amendment to the previous authorization to add tenth grade for pre-engineering algebra credit.
