Board approves deregulation of teacher plan period to allow STEM rotation

The board on Aug. 11 approved deregulating Brandon Willis’ plan period so he can continue STEM rotations and work with gifted-and-talented students during what had been his plan time. Pam, a staff member, explained Willis had attempted to add elementary certification by taking the elementary test but still needs 12 additional college hours to add the elementary endorsement. "In order for him to add the elementary on, he has to do 12 additional college hours too. And so we are gonna adjunct him," Pam said, then clarified the current item was to deregulate his plan period so he can perform STEM rotation and GT duties during that time. A board member moved the motion to approve deregulation; a second followed and the board approved the request. Board discussion included praise for Willis’ work and references to him having students every hour; staff plans to follow up with Willis about the 12 additional college hours he needs to add elementary certification. The board did not specify additional changes to Willis’ compensation or contract in the public record on Aug. 11.
