Council approves Sept. 20 public fireworks display at Leavenworth County Fairgrounds

The Tonganoxie City Council on Sept. 2 approved a special-event permit for a public fireworks display organized by the Tonganoxie Recreation Commission for Sept. 20, 2025, at the Leavenworth County Fairgrounds and Tonganoxie Recreation ballfields. The motion passed unanimously.
Porter (staff member) told the council the application packet showed the display will be provided by licensed professionals Wald and Company Incorporated and All American Display Fireworks, the same company used last year, and that staff coordinated with the fire, public safety and public works departments and had no comments or objections to report. The staff presentation noted that Tonganoxie Days has moved to June this year, so the fireworks event will be largely a standalone special event coordinated with the arts council and recreation commission.
Councilmember Partridge moved approval of the permit; Councilmember Donnelly seconded. The motion carried with a voice vote of "Aye" from all members present.
The permit as approved authorizes a professional public fireworks display on Sept. 20, 2025, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the stated fairgrounds and ballfields. Staff will continue coordinating safety and logistics with the city's fire and public-works departments and the Recreation Commission.
No public comments on the permit were offered during the meeting's public-comment period prior to the vote.
