Farmers Branch city council appointed members to fill a vacancy on the Planning & Zoning Commission. Following discussion, council voted to move Scott Norris from alternate status into the vacant Place 6, move Brianna Banks from Alternate 2 to Alternate 1, and appoint John Schumacher as Alternate 2. The council instructed staff to proceed with eligibility vetting and schedule an orientation for the appointees.
Aaron Flores, city secretary, explained options for filling the Place 6 vacancy, including promoting an alternate or selecting from six applicants; council members discussed priorities including prior commission experience, legal expertise and geographic balance. Multiple council members expressed preference for promoting an existing alternate to provide continuity; others suggested specific candidates with relevant professional backgrounds.
Council approved the three appointments by unanimous vote and directed staff to complete the eligibility checks and arrange orientation sessions. The appointments will be recorded and the planning and zoning commission will resume hearing items with the new composition when members are sworn and eligible to serve.
