Radford board names Cole Martin student representative; alternate is Ellie Steele

The Radford City School Board appointed Cole Martin as the district’s student representative on Aug. 19 and named Ellie Steele as alternate. Superintendent Dr. Joyce said the student representative will not have a vote on action items and will not attend closed sessions but is expected to provide regular perspective from the high school; she noted the student already had a page-and-a-half of items he wanted to raise. Cole Martin said the first week under the new block schedule went smoothly for students overall and reported on senior sunrise, student-government elections, homecoming dates and athletics schedules. The board welcomed the student representative and said they would rely on him for current information from the high school throughout the school year.
