Radford schools report near-complete concession roof, new track and gate work; card reader and painting remain

Radford’s new director of operations updated the school board on Aug. 19 about several near-complete capital projects at the high school, saying the concession roof work was finished and that the track surface layers are down though painting and lane markings remain. He described the stadium sign and an automated gate as installed; the gate is closed during school hours and staff are working with city waste crews to provide access codes. The director said a card reader is in place and that the district will add three protective pillars to prevent accidental damage. Staff described timing work to avoid athletes walking on unfinished track surfaces and are arranging painting during suitable weather. Board members raised potholes in student pickup areas; the operations director reported crews filled the last of the potholes and will review an additional location on Davis Drive.
