The Brevard County Board of County Commissioners approved the Tourism Development Council’s marketing support recommendations Aug. 12, funding 18 cultural and 24 sports grants for a combined total of $572,665. Peter, a county TDC representative, presented the list and staff recommended approval.
Commissioner Delaney requested a change to internal allocation language that had required each district office to award funds to up to two organizations; she said she preferred the TDC make allocation decisions rather than bind district offices. The board accepted a friendly amendment changing “must” to “may,” giving district offices discretion rather than an absolute requirement. The motion passed 5-0.
Staff said districts would submit final selections by Oct. 14 and would return to the board with a report; commissioners directed staff to ensure timely selection and distribution consistent with TDC guidelines.
