East Recreation MSBU rates adjusted to cover shortfall; board briefed on TRIM notice

Tommy Vaughn, Henry County special districts and code enforcement director, briefed commissioners Aug. 26 on the East Recreation MSBU budget and a proposed rate increase that would close a current shortfall. Vaughn told the board the revised TRIM rates, by geographic area, are what was mailed on TRIM notices and would be proposed at the September hearings to cover the deficit.
Commissioners asked for the size of the shortfall and Vaughn said it was "a little over a $100,000" at the current rate; he and county staff said the adjusted rates on the TRIM notice would cover the deficit and would provide enough funding to begin returning some funds borrowed from the county administration for prior shortfalls, though he said they would not be able to pay the full administrative debt in the first year.
Vaughn said the Pioneer summer camp program has historically been funded and that the MSBU budget currently includes funding for summer camp this year, but that the school board elected not to run the program. He said the proposed TRIM rates are geographically targeted and would be presented at the statutory hearings in September. No formal action was taken at the workshop; staff said the rate adjustments will appear on the September agenda for final decision.
