La Verne Library explains Libby e-audio and e-book service and card process

La Verne Public Library staff briefed the board Sept. 8 on how the library’s Libby e-audio and e-book platform works and how patrons obtain access, Library Director Donna said. Donna explained that the library maintains its own OverDrive/Libby collection rather than joining the Tennessee Reads regional system. “We actually had enough money that we were able to purchase our platform, and so we have our own platform through La Verne Public Library,” she said, and described the sign-in process: use your library card number as username (cards begin with 106120) and the four-digit PIN provided when signing up. Donna said brochures with a QR code are available at the library to guide patrons to the Libby app and that the library will help patrons reset PINs on request. She said La Verne’s collection aims to keep many new releases and best sellers current to reduce wait times compared with the larger regional catalog. On routine operations, Donna summarized library hours: Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 9 a.m.–7 p.m.; Wednesday, Friday and Saturday 9 a.m.–5 p.m.; closed Sunday. She also said the library uses electronic signatures now and can photograph patrons to help issue cards when IDs are unavailable. Board members praised the convenience of the local Libby holdings during the meeting. No formal action was taken; the presentation was informational.
