Harlingen CISD construction staff told the Facilities and Safety Committee they have advanced multiple TRE- and maintenance-funded projects across district campuses ahead of the school year.
Oscar Tapia and Kimberly (construction manager) reviewed completed and in-progress work: marquee and signage replacements at high schools, chiller and switchgear repairs at Memorial, locker-room and gym HVAC upgrades at South High School, playground and asphalt repairs, LED lighting at mini stadiums, and renovations tied to a Head Start merger at Jefferson Elementary.
Tapia showed photos of completed work and described in-house renovations at the new Fine Arts Conservatory building the district purchased through a local Habitat-for-Humanities site. "That's gonna be their costume area where they'll have costumes and racks and materials to sew," Tapia said, describing the converted garage and shop areas.
Staff also outlined campus improvements to security vestibules and outdoor circulation, a planned $1.9 million dehumidification/HVAC project at the aquatic center, and other items such as LED lighting purchases and minor punch-list tasks. Finance staff later reported construction-findings: three active funds (maintenance tax note, fund L and M, and the TRE fund) with $9.6 million encumbered and $6.3 million disbursed, leaving approximately $3.3 million available as of July.
No new contract awards were approved during the committee update; Tapia acknowledged a pending change order to reduce a contract amount and said final invoices will reflect the revised totals.
Trustees recognized construction manager Kimberly for her work; she announced she will accept a capital-projects role with the City of Brownsville.
