Board members recognized the new Unified Parent‑Teacher‑Community Organization (PTCO) created to support a cluster of city schools that the presenters said serve many economically disadvantaged students.
District staff introduced the unified PTCO and noted the group was organized to consolidate fundraising and avoid duplicative solicitations of local businesses. Jean Foster and the group—s president, Mrs. Laitz, described the PTCO—s mission and membership and presented checks and seed funds. Foster read the organization's mission and emphasized parent, teacher and community collaboration to support MB Mills Elementary, Third Creek Elementary, Third Creek Middle, Statesville High School and East Ardo Elementary.
The First Presbyterian Church presented a $10,000 gift that the PTCO plans to split evenly among five schools to offset technology fees; presenters said Pilot (the travel center/truck stop) had funded needs across 11 schools and Allen Tate Realty contributed $2,000. The PTCO said it intends to set criteria for awarding funds and to pursue grants and business partnerships.
District leadership commended the volunteers and community partners for organizing and fundraising. No board action was required; the segment was a recognition and informational report about an organized community fund to support student needs across several schools.
