Town public works staff reported Aug. 19 that crews cleaned 12 catch basins that had not been serviced in more than five years, repaired roughly 400 feet of McAllister Road by removing and regrading the failed section, and replaced a failing culvert in a property owner's driveway. Staff said crews are preparing portions of Brock School Road for paving, replacing cross culverts, and continuing ditching work. On South Hill Road, seasonal workers trimmed overgrowth to restore sightlines at an intersection flagged for visibility concerns. The town manager and public works staff said they are assembling a prioritized roadside-mowing list, starting in eastern Buckfield on roads with heavy overgrowth (Bryant Road, Back Bryant Road, Gesner Road, Gammon Road) and will seek contractor pricing for sections to avoid an exorbitant quote. At the transfer station staff reported repeated improper drop-offs of gasoline and antifreeze; disposal requires hiring a hazardous-waste removal contractor. The manager said the town has flyers and will add signage to remind residents that household hazardous waste should be taken to designated collection events or participating depots. Board members asked staff to post information and consider more durable notice boards at the transfer station and to distribute flyers to residents. The board approved the public works report as part of the consent agenda.
