County to increase certified survey map review fee after plat-review vendor stops accepting work

Planning staff informed the Executive & Finance committee that the state plat-review service that had reviewed certified survey maps (CSMs) for the county will no longer accept that work. Staff said the county contacted the county surveyor and private surveyors and that a county-arranged review is likely to cost about $200 per survey.
Under the current fee schedule, a CSM submission cost was $100 plus $20 per lot. Staff proposed increasing the fee to cover third-party or county-surveyor review so the county does not absorb the cost; staff said the new minimum fee would be $320 in order to pass through the review charge. Members discussed that 2–3 CSMs arrive per month and that the additional cost should be applied to applicants.
Committee members approved forwarding the fee change to the full county board. Staff said the change should take effect as soon as it is adopted because the county cannot absorb the cost of outside review.
Staff emphasized the quality-control purpose: outside or county-surveyor review provides a second set of eyes that has caught typographical and technical errors in past submissions.
