Council welcomes Tim Flock as appointed fire district commissioner

Medical Lake council members introduced and welcomed Tim Flock after his appointment to the Fire District 3 commission during the Aug. 19 meeting. Fire leadership said the district had the same elected board for nearly two decades and that Flock was appointed to replace a departing member. Flock told the council he had been a firefighter for 32 years, 15 with the district, and had previously served about 28 years in the military, mostly with the Washington National Guard. "This role here is really important to me," he said, and described stepping from a battalion chief role into the commissioner position because of job conflict. The introduction included remarks from district and city leaders thanking Flock for his service and encouraging outreach and communication. Council members and the fire chief noted Flock’s experience in both firefighting and the community and invited questions; none were posed that required follow-up action during the meeting. The appointment does not, in the meeting record, reflect a council vote; it was presented as an introduction of the appointed commissioner by the fire chief. The chief encouraged residents to contact the commissioner's office with questions and noted opportunities for the new commissioner to learn about district programs, including the hydro program Flock previously had oversight for.
