Small Business Boost grant awarded to Lazada Grill; owner says funds will pay for renovations

The Economic Development Corporation used part of its meeting on Aug. 25 to recognize a recipient of its Small Business Boost grant. Rogelio Saenz, who identified himself as owner of Lazada Grill, told the board he applied online and was notified earlier the same day that his business had been approved for a grant.

Saenz told the board the family‑run restaurant operates primarily evening hours and plans to use the grant funds for renovations that will help the business open for daytime service. He described the business and thanked staff for outreach: "My name is Rogelio Saenz. We're with Lazada Grill ... We're there for weekends only since family owned." Staff said the check would be processed and a photo opportunity will be scheduled.

Ending: Board and staff encouraged recipients to publicize the program; staff said additional rounds of applications are open and that they will set application deadlines timed to upcoming board meetings so awardees can be presented at a meeting.
