Council approves surplus of decommissioned ambulance for sale

The Mount Vernon City Council on Aug. 27 approved Resolution 1081 to surplus Fire Department vehicle unit 33, a Ford F-450 ambulance, and authorize the shop supervisor to put it up for sale to the highest bidder. Fire Chief Brian Harris presented the resolution and explained the department recently placed a new ambulance in service and is ready to surplus the older unit. “Tonight before you counsel is a resolution, seeking your approval, to approve this resolution to surplus a Ford F-450 ambulance, fire vehicle number 33,” Harris said. During discussion Councilmember Gary Molineux asked whether the vehicle would be sold for continued use or sent to scrap. Harris replied, “It's not ready for a scrap yard. Somebody will purchase it.” The resolution allows the shop supervisor to manage the sale and dispose of the vehicle by the method that generates the highest return. Councilmember Mary moved approval; a second was recorded and the council approved the resolution by voice vote. No further action or conditions were added.
