City approves $500 sponsorship for Boy Scouts’ 5K fundraiser; scouts to lead Run Day booth

Waterville council voted to provide up to $500 to sponsor a Boy Scouts of Troop 101 5K run and associated Run Day activities in late September.
Laurie Kisco, representing Troop 101, explained that the troop and local volunteers are organizing the run, which includes a 5K and kids’ race starting at Parker Square on Friday, Sept. 26, with a t-shirt deadline for registrations by Sept. 14. "I was asked as a small business owner in town to help kind of, like, step up the run day booth this year," Kisco said, explaining outreach to local businesses for sponsorships.
Council member Wayne Wagner moved to provide up to $500 in sponsorship; Anthony Bruno seconded the motion. Council voted and the motion passed. Members said they would promote the event and leave flyers at city offices and encouraged public participation; one council member said the city’s public-safety personnel typically assist with traffic control for the event.
Also during public comment, life scout Colin Kisco described his planned Eagle project: building a blessing box to help residents in need; council members thanked the scouts and offered to promote the events.
Council asked staff to accept and post remaining flyers and to coordinate any city support required for the event.
