Tommy Kolovic of 1316 Ohio Street said the old Train Depot at 100 Washington Street will be offered at sheriff's sale and urged buyers to preserve and restore the building. He also mentioned an upcoming demolition hearing for 1402 Franklin Street and suggested the commission consider facade grant help for property owners who want to preserve historic structures.
Kolovic raised a public-safety concern about three large fallen dead trees lying on utility lines along Highway 20 near the Von Tobel lumber and Advanced Auto areas, reporting the wetland property where the trees fell is owned by the redevelopment commission. He asked the commission to coordinate removal and noted utility companies are often responsible for line clearance.
The commission acknowledged Kolovic's remarks; staff clarified the redevelopment commission currently has no involvement in the contested train-depot parcel, which is the subject of separate litigation and mortgage foreclosure activity, and that a sheriff sale would not resolve the outstanding legal issues without additional court action.
