Eleventh Street Station garage in use; residential tower rising as insurance transfers to city

The Michigan City Redevelopment Commission received an update on the Eleventh Street Station project at its Aug. 18 meeting, including use of the new parking garage and construction progress on the residential tower.
Staff reported that the parking garage is being used more frequently and that the surrounding parking lots appear fuller. The garage had builders-risk insurance during construction; staff said the coverage transitioned to regular property insurance and the commission paid the annual premium pro rata for the remainder of the year to assist the city. Staff noted that, at the start of next year, the insurance responsibility is expected to transfer to the City's general insurance program.
On the residential tower, staff said construction has reached approximately the seventh floor on the southern portion, which is near its final height, and that the northern portion will rise another five floors. Staff observed increased worker presence and said the project continues to progress.
No formal action was required; commissioners received the construction and insurance update.
