The Michigan City Redevelopment Commission unanimously approved Sept. 8 a request by Antonio (Mister) Connolly to use the plaza at Seventh and Franklin on Saturday, Oct. 25, for a youth-focused Trick-or-Treat on Franklin Street collaboration that will involve the Main Street Association and the city parks and recreation department.
Connolly told the commission he planned a collaborative event for children and local businesses and requested electricity be provided at the plaza. Skyler confirmed the commission had previously approved use of the plaza for a First Friday event in October and that the additional Oct. 25 date was a separate request. A commissioner moved to approve the use request with electricity provided; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote with no recorded nays.
Connolly thanked commissioners and said he would continue organizing the event once approval was final. The commission did not attach special conditions beyond the electricity provision; standard event coordination and permitting through city staff will apply.
The approval authorizes staff to provide electricity and reserve the plaza for the Oct. 25 event. Event organizers and city staff will proceed to meet any usual permitting, safety and logistics requirements for a public gathering on city property.
