Historic commission defers decision on proposed new garage at 113 West South Street

The Crown Point Historic Preservation Commission on Aug. 25 deferred action on Petition 25-11, a request to replace a garage at 113 West South Street, after staff said the application lacked basic measurements and material details.
Commission staff member Blake recommended tabling the item, saying the submission omitted dimensions, height and materials needed for review. "The primary thing was there is no steel or no any of the plans, so no size, width, anything like that," Blake said. The petitioner, who identified himself as Robert Hall, said the intent was to keep the same footprint and mirror a neighbor’s garage and that the exterior would be white; he acknowledged the commission needed measurements and material details.
The commission voted to defer the petition to its September meeting and asked the petitioner to work with staff to supply complete drawings and material specifications. No formal approvals were taken; the action on the record is a deferral to the next regular meeting.
The commission discussed that for a full review it needs building dimensions, door sizes, siding type and color, and foundation details so it can compare the proposed work to the historic district context. The petitioner agreed to submit the requested information to staff ahead of the commission’s next meeting.
Because the item was deferred, any permit or construction work remains subject to subsequent commission and any separate zoning or building approvals the petitioner must obtain.
