Roberto Martinez, representing the Boys & Girls Club of Camarillo, briefed the City Council Aug. 13 to thank the city for support including staff volunteer work, a code change allowing new exterior signage and a community-service grant.
Martinez said city staff organized a service day earlier in the year to assist the club with touch-up painting, furniture assembly and hanging acoustic boards. He cited staff members Chantal Limon and Ryan Strawser for coordinating the effort. Martinez thanked the council for a code amendment and variance that allowed the club to display new signage.
He also described grant-funded improvements: a crime-prevention-through-environmental-design review with the Camarillo Police Department led to upgraded exterior lighting for the site and STEM kits for youth programming. Martinez noted the club used funds to purchase hands-on STEM kits and that volunteers and staff helped children assemble them.
Council members praised Martinez and the club. Vice Mayor David Tennyson and Council Member Susan Santangelo commented on the club’s service to local children; Council Member David Tremblay, noting a standing council tradition, expressed collective appreciation.
No formal action was taken; the presentation was an informational recognition and staff follow-up was not requested during the meeting.
