Several residents used the public‑comment portion of the Sept. 2 meeting to urge the council to help preserve a vacant Lutheran church on a prominent corner that speakers said dates to 1886.
Carol Drazca, identifying her address as 390 Ellendale Parkway, said she had seen engineering reports indicating the building is structurally sound and asked the council to "get behind it, and see what we can do to save it as far as supporting people looking at it." She described the church as a valuable piece of Crown Point history with unique architectural detailing and said she did not want to see it demolished or replaced with modular homes.
A second speaker associated with a preservation foundation described the building as one of the last of its kind and said it is difficult to find buyers for such properties. Council members listened but did not direct staff or make a motion regarding the property during the Sept. 2 meeting.
Why it matters: the comments place the issue on the council’s record and signal resident interest in preservation; any formal action (historic designation, acquisition, grants or demolition review) would require future council or board‑of‑works action and staff follow‑up.
