Selma — The City Council approved a one‑year real estate listing agreement Aug. 19 to market a roughly 5.03‑acre city parcel at the northeast corner of McCall and Nelson Boulevard through REMAX Gold with a stated list price of $2,000,000.
City staff explained the listing agreement authorizes the broker to market and facilitate a sale. The contract form specifies disclosures required by California law; staff told the council the sale process and final commission terms will be set at the time of a negotiated purchase and sale.
Members of the public asked about the city’s purchase history for the parcel and whether the city is paying property taxes on the unused lot. The city responded that the property purchase approval occurred in 2023 and the city closed escrow in 2024 for roughly $1.5 million. Staff said they would provide specific property‑tax information on request.
Vote and next steps The council approved the listing; roll call showed a majority in favor, with at least 1 council member recorded as voting no on the motion to list. Staff will manage the broker relationship and return with any sale agreement for council approval.
Why it matters Selling underutilized city land can return proceeds to the general fund and remove carrying costs, but councilors and residents asked for transparency on acquisition cost and carrying costs (taxes) before final disposition.
