The Johnson County Council on Sept. 8 approved Ordinance 2025‑10, which amends and supersedes Ordinance 83‑1 to restructure the Park Board in accordance with Indiana Code 36‑10‑3. The ordinance changes appointment authority and membership categories; the council approved the change by voice vote after staff explained the effective date and transition of current members.
Staff said the sheriff will have one appointment under the new structure, the commissioners will continue to have two appointments, and the council will retain two appointments. Staff also said the current members would remain through the end of the year where applicable and that the statutory changes take effect in January under the presentation’s proposed timeline.
John Demmers moved the ordinance and Ron Bates seconded; the motion passed by voice vote. Council members asked staff to clarify how terms would transition and were told the plan was to set an effective date in January and allow current appointments to run through the end of the year where needed.
