Council approves appropriation to update community corrections body scanner

Johnson County on Sept. 8 approved an appropriation request from Community Corrections to update a body scanner used in adult correction services. Steve Kermode, assistant director of community corrections, told the council the office identified updates and repairs needed to keep the scanner operational and requested a line-item appropriation to fund the work.
Council members expressed support for maintaining equipment used in supervision and monitoring programs. A motion by Michelle Ann Graves, seconded by Ron Bates, carried the item.
Kermode said the appropriation will allow the department to contract for the necessary work and maintain the scanner for ongoing use in community corrections.
