Mr. Burgess told the board he is preparing a resolution to affirm district support for immigrant families and staff and to clarify board and district responsibilities. "I'm working on a resolution, to support our, immigrant families and staff," he said, and said he plans to include language asking the administration to strengthen existing administrative regulations. Burgess said he hopes the item can come to the Aug. 19 meeting and that the board could consider forwarding the resolution to the Association of Alaska School Boards for broader consideration.
President Burnett acknowledged the notice and several board members signaled support for considering the resolution at the Aug. 19 meeting and for discussing submission to AASB.
There was no formal motion; Mr. Burgess will circulate draft language and seek to place the resolution on the Aug. 19 agenda.
