The school board spent the latter portion of the Aug. 11 work session reviewing proposed Article 6 (instruction) policies and offered numerous drafting directions to district staff and legal counsel.
Diana Dillard, student discipline and policy specialist, said the Article 6 package will replace most of the district's chapter 8–9 instructional policies and includes both carryovers and new items. In opening the review on BP 6000 (Concepts and Roles), board members debated whether to keep the district's new mission statement verbatim in policy. Mr. Doran recommended removing the phrase ‘‘as a community’’ because the policy is a board document; Mr. Burgess suggested a modest rephrasing to retain the strategic plan language while clarifying that the board works with the community.
